Splendors of Morocco 2021

May 19-29, 2021

Source Events invites you to travel back to a slower time of aromatic mint tea in cool courtyards and sun-drenched bazaars overflowing with handmade jewelry and colorful tagines (Moroccan dishes) during this luxury journey. Morocco is a gateway to Africa and a country of dizzying diversity. Here you’ll find epic mountain ranges, ancient cities, sweeping deserts – and warm hospitality. Lodging is also a delightful adventure, whether you overnight in the Sahara in an exclusive tented desert camp or stays in Morocco’s most well-appointed and romantic riads (traditional courtyard houses). With expert guides, learn the histories of Morocco’s ancient cities, discover ornate monuments to religious devotion, and savor one of the most diverse cuisines in the world.

From Saharan dunes to the peaks of the High Atlas, Morocco is tailor-made for travelers. With a history stretching back nearly 10,000 years, Morocco has been crisscrossed by Roman legions, Berber caravans, and Muslim scholars. Lyrical landscapes carpet this slice of North Africa like the richly colored and patterned rugs you’ll lust after. The mountains – not just the famous High Atlas but also the suntanned ranges leading to Saharan oases – offer simple, breathtaking pleasures: night skies glistening in the thin air, and views over a fluffy cloud-banks.

Ancient Medinas

Morocco’s cities are some of the most exciting on the continent. Join the centuries-old trail of nomads and traders to their ancient hearts, from the spectacular blue city of Chefchaouen to the winding medina maze of Fez to the carnivalesque street-theatre of the Djemaa El Fna in Marrakesh. In the rocky deserts, medinas are protected by kasbahs, on the coast by thick sea walls. But Morocco is more than it’s historic World Heritage Sites. Morocco’s cities are forward-facing too, with glitzy new urban design in Casablanca and Tangier looking to the future as well as paying homage to their roots. Morocco offers it all and more.

Grand Hotel Villa de France – Tangier

Day 2

Recently and gloriously refurbished, few hotel addresses in Tangier are as venerable as Grand Hôtel Villa de France. French painter Eugène Delacroix stayed here in 1832, followed by his compatriot, Henri Matisse, just before WWI. You can still enjoy the spectacular views he painted from his old room (35), decorated as it was in his day. The attention to detail in the salons and dining rooms is superb, and the service is attentive. There is a piano bar and suites around a pool at the rear, next to an old villa once occupied by the Napoleons. Grand Hotel Villa de France is located about a 5-minute walk from a fitness center, a spa and wellness center and a tennis club. Each room here will provide you with a TV, air conditioning and satellite channels. Featuring a bath or shower, private bathroom also comes with complimentary toiletries. For those feeling too comfortable to head into town for dinner, the restaurant provides excellent food.

Riad Fes – Relais & Chateaux

Days 3, 4, 5

Benefiting from a prime location in the heart of the Fes medina, this luxurious Relais & Chateaux property, originally built in the 1930s by a noble Fassi family, has been lovingly restored to its former splendor. The history of this Imperial city is reflected in the Moroccan-Andalusian architecture and the exquisite attention to detail, as seen in the decor.  Elegant rooms and suites are spread throughout five different parts of the property, each showcasing a particular style: Andalusian, Baroque, and Contemporary.

Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp

Day 6

Watching the sunset over the high dunes of the Sahara Desert is a highlight of Merzouga Luxury camp, set in the middle of the golden sand dunes. Each of its splendid tents is decorated with traditional Moroccan crafts and handmade carpets. Each tent features a comfortable bed and en suite bathroom. In the evening, venture into the restaurant tent to enjoy a charming evening with a Moroccan dinner accompanied by local entertainment.

Le Berbere Palace – Ouarzazate

Day 7

Immaculately refurbished in traditional Moroccan style, La Villa Des Orangers is a riad-style hotel located just minutes from the hive of activity of Jemaa el Fna Square, boasting panoramic views of the surrounding medina. The riad’s stately lounges and elegant salons recreate the atmosphere of old Marrakech, with luxuriant fabrics and crackling log fires. The focal point of this inviting property is a central courtyard shaded by the eponymous orange trees, where a traditional Moroccan breakfast or a light lunch is served. All of the superbly appointed bedrooms and suites are decorated in warm hues and open onto shared courtyards or feature individual roof terraces.
