Originally opened in 1953, The People’s Grand Hotel Xian designed by Mr. Hong Qing, Chief architect of the Northwest Institute of Architectural Design. Hong Qing was commissioned due to his experience for studies in France and Belgium where he inspired by the “Fleur-de-lis” which you can see on the façade murals and internal ceilings with coverings and moldings. The Hotel was built to host the Soviet engineers who were building the city and the hotel soon become the first “State Guest House” initially built under Chairman Mao. It quickly became the place to stay for government officials and invited foreign dignitaries, the hotel was guarded by 12 military guards and was known as the most prestigious address in Xian.
